First team draft FPL

Goalkeepers

Ederson and Raya. I have never gone the way of a top of the price list goalkeeper but I have been thinking for a while having Ederson does increase the number of Manchester City players I have and he is the one absolute guarenteed starter (if he stays clear of injuries). Allison is probably the better keeper (just) but by having him there are only 2 extra spaces for Liverpool players and realistically if you can get 3 outfield Liverpool players in your team you are looking good. Raya for Brentford will do well in FPL I have a little fear for Brentford this season with second season syndrome but that won’t stop Raya getting points. I will change him though before season starts to a cheaper keeper due to the cost of Ederson.

Defenders Cancello coufal guehi Konate and Justin. With Zinchenko leaving for Arsenal I feel Cancello should be less of a rotation risk at left back for Manchester City. One of the over all best players last season it’s hard to imagine anything else from him again this season. Geuhi will be looking to carry in from last seasons good form that saw him called up for England. Palace have always been one of those teams that will hang around in the Premier League. With Viera in charge though I feel there will be more ambition with them than just surviving every year. West Ham and Leicester are going to be pushing the top 6 places again this season so having Coufal and Justin makes sense. I would still like to be absolutely sure Brendan Rogers will have Justin as a week in week out starter though so I may change him before the season starts.

Midfield Maddison Odegaard Neves Eriksen and Son. I feel this is a strong midfield selection. The race for the top 4 this season could be the story of the season 7 or 8 teams will have serious ambitions to crack the top 4 assuming a top 2 of City and Livepool again. First draft of my team reflects this. I was stung a couple of times last season not having Maddison so I feel I will definitely go with him this time around. I think there were questions about his attitude but he quietly went about his business last season and was a but under the radar. He should be pushing for an England call up so I would expect to see him raise his game again. Can Son carry his amazing form from last season into this season? I would certainly expect him to. It might be slightly controversial opinion but of any team is going to beat City or Liverpool to the title I think Spurs have the best chance. They have brought very well and any team managed by Conte and with Son and Kane firing are going to be a match for anybody. Arsenal and Manchester United are outside bets for the top 4 but Odergaard was one of the most under rated players of last season, being given the Arsenal captaincy should see him kick on. If there is any such thing as a archetypal Man U player then Eriksen is that guy. Amazing to think what he has come back from to making a move to Manchester United. I feel he is going to be one of the stars of the season. Wolves will be OK again this season so always a good option to get a few of their players in your team and who better than Rueban Neves?

Forwards Haaland Jesus and Broja. At the moment I am leaning towards Haarland as my premium player he is an unknown quantity at the moment in English Football but I think he is going to smash it. Seeing him score yesterday in a pre season friendly it just looked right! Jesus was always a risk to pick at City because of a risk of rotation but he always scored goals. Given the 9 shirt at Arsenal he should play week in week out so I see plenty of goals for him again he is looking good in pre season and showing he knows where the goal is. Broja is cheap but it depends on where he is. He is in my team at the moment on the proviso he is not at Chelsea and he is at somewhere else with plenty of game time.
