Week 1 FPL

Decent week 1 fairly pleased with the outcome. 71 points which was above the average (57 points).

My one slight regret was not including Haaland felt it was a wait and see but having watched his performance against West Ham he looks a must have goal machine. More of that later.

I had settled on my squad by Tuesday and was happy with it so no last minute tinkering. I have loaded up what will be my first 11 and then gone for some budget subs who should still get some points should I need them to step up. Schmeichel leaving Leicester leaving Ward as Leicester number 1 has been a big help giving me an extra half a million to play with.

Nice start first game of the season with Zinchenko clean sheet and assist. Feel like he offers great value this season. The way he plays will make him a points magnet. Arsenal won’t let too many goals in and there will be plenty of attacking returns.

If there is any such thing as a must have player it has to be Salah. True to form a goal on opening day hardly surprising that I chose him as captain.

I fear for Leicester a bit now looks like they have a job on their hands to keep some of their top players but even so Vardy has served me well over the years in FPL. He can be a bit streaky, going on a run of games scoring week in week out and then going a few weeks without scoring. Paired up front with Jesus. I can see a bit of panic with him not scoring but I have every faith he will be amongst the goals sooner rather than later.

Transfers for week 2. Sunday social media was full of panic with talk of wild cards already and writing players off already after 1 game. My gut instinct is always to try and hold a transfer after the first week. I will have thought long and hard over the starting squad so will have faith in it. However as mentioned before having seen Haaland in action I think he will become an essential own in the game before long. I had to get him in but it was not easy. Already owning 3 City assets (Ederson, Walker and Cancello) meant having to get rid of one. To make that move I had to let Cancello go. Not too happy with that. I understand there is an argument that they will end up with similar points in the end, but for me there are other games for that kind of thinking. I want to be aggressive this season so Haaland all the way. Vardy has also gone so Cancello and Vardy out and Trippier and Haaland in. I will probably wild card a lot earlier this season so may try and get Cancello back then.

Week 2 team news and captain. Don’t see a need to rock the boat my subs will stay as they were. Captain pick will be Haaland.

Player I wish I owned. Got to be Kulusevski. Even with a difficult fixture this week he served me well last season and he looks like he could be even better.
